Date Difference Calculator: Count Days Between Dates
A date difference calculator can help plan a project, count days to an event or compare two calendar dates. Select both dates and check whether the calculation includes the start date.
Find the difference between dates
- Choose the start date in the first field.
- Choose the end date in the second field.
- Select Calculate to view the elapsed difference.
- Reverse the dates if you want to check a different interval.
- For deadlines, confirm inclusive-day rules, holidays and time zones with the responsible organization.
Elapsed days versus inclusive days
An elapsed difference counts the interval between dates. A process that counts both its first and last day may use an inclusive count and produce a different total.
Calendar periods and deadlines
Months have different lengths, and official deadlines can exclude weekends or public holidays. This general calculator does not apply jurisdiction-specific deadline rules.
Dates and optional times
Choose a start date and an end date, and press Calculate to see the difference in days and in full weeks. If you also type a start time and an end time, the result is shown in days, hours and minutes, with the total in hours and in minutes. The end date and time cannot be before the start. Leaving the times as they are counts from midnight to midnight.
Worked examples
From 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2026 the difference is 364 days, which is exactly 52 full weeks. From 9:00 in the morning to 17:30 on the same day is 8 hours 30 minutes, which is 510 minutes. To find the age in days, use the date of birth as the start and today as the end.
Counting days for a deadline
The tool gives the elapsed difference, so it does not count both the first day and the last day. If your rule counts both, add one day. Deadlines may also leave out weekends or public holidays and may depend on a time zone, which this tool does not know. For a legal or a contract deadline, check the exact rule with the office that sets it.
