Discount Calculator: Find Sale Price and Savings
A discount calculator helps estimate a sale price from an original price and a discount percentage. Enter the values shown by the seller, then check taxes, delivery and other charges separately.
Calculate a percentage discount
- Enter the original price before discount.
- Enter the discount percentage shown by the seller.
- Select Calculate to see the estimated amount saved and discounted price.
- Check that the discount is applied to the correct items and price basis.
- Add taxes, delivery and fees separately if you need a final checkout estimate.
Discount amount and sale price
The discount amount is the original price multiplied by the discount rate. The sale price is the original price minus that amount, before any additional charges.
Check stacked offers and exclusions
Retailers may apply offers to selected items, exclude taxes or prevent coupon stacking. The calculator does not know a store’s terms or final checkout price.
Discount, saving and sale price
Enter the original price and the discount percentage. The tool shows how much you save and the estimated sale price. A 20 percent discount on 5,000 saves 1,000 and leaves a price of 4,000. The discount is calculated on the price you enter, so enter the price before any tax or delivery fee, and add those to the sale price yourself afterwards.
Two discounts are not added together
If a shop takes 20 percent off and then another 10 percent, the second discount applies to the already reduced price. On a price of 100 the first step gives 80 and the second gives 72, so the total discount is 28 percent and not 30. When you see a stacked offer, run the calculator twice, using the first sale price as the second original price.
Working backwards
If you know the sale price and the discount, you can find the original price by dividing the sale price by one minus the discount rate. A price of 750 after a 25 percent discount means the original was 750 divided by 0.75, which is 1,000. Compare offers by looking at the final price you pay, including delivery, tax and any conditions on the coupon.
