Loan Calculator: Monthly Payment, Total Interest and Cost

A loan calculator can help you understand how a borrowing amount, interest rate, and repayment period affect estimated monthly cost. NexaToolPro provides a simple fixed-rate estimate for planning.

Practical guide · NexaToolPro

How to use this tool

  1. Enter the loan principal.
  2. Add the annual interest rate in percent.
  3. Set the term in years.
  4. Calculate to see an estimated monthly payment, total payments, and interest.
  5. Change one input at a time to compare scenarios.

Options explained

The result assumes a fixed interest rate and equal monthly payments. A longer term often lowers the monthly estimate but can increase total interest.

Accuracy and limitations

This is not financial advice, an offer, or a lender’s official amortization schedule. Fees, APR definitions, compounding, taxes, and contract terms can change the real cost.

How the monthly payment is calculated

The tool turns the annual rate into a monthly rate by dividing it by 12 and the term in years into a number of months by multiplying by 12. The payment is then the loan amount times the monthly rate, divided by one minus (1 plus the monthly rate) raised to minus the number of months. If the rate is zero the payment is simply the amount divided by the number of months. Every payment is equal and the rate stays the same for the whole loan.

A worked example

Take a loan of 100,000 at 10 percent a year for 5 years. That is 60 monthly payments of about 2,124.70, so you pay about 127,482 in total, of which about 27,482 is interest. The result is shown with a dollar sign, but the calculation is only a number, so it works the same for rupees, riyals, dirhams or any other currency.

Term and total interest

A longer term lowers the monthly payment but raises the total cost. The same 100,000 at 10 percent over 10 years costs about 1,321.51 a month, which is much easier to pay, but the total is about 158,581 and the interest is about 58,581, more than double the interest of the 5 year loan. Try several terms and decide which monthly payment you can really afford.

What the result leaves out

The estimate does not include processing fees, insurance, taxes, late charges or a rate that changes during the loan. Some financing, such as Islamic home or car financing, uses a fixed profit amount instead of interest, so the payment schedule can differ from the result here. Ask the lender for the full repayment schedule and the total amount you will pay before you sign.

Frequently asked questions

Does it work for any currency?

Yes. The calculation is only a number. The result is shown with a dollar sign for convenience.

Why does my bank show a different payment?

The bank may add fees or insurance, use a different way of counting interest, or use a rate that changes. Ask for the repayment schedule.

Can I use it for a car or a house loan?

Yes, if the loan has a fixed rate and equal monthly payments. For other kinds of loans use the lender's own figures.

What happens if I enter 0 percent?

The payment is the loan amount divided by the number of months, with no interest.
