Exact duplicates and near-duplicates
A line can be considered a duplicate only when its text matches according to the tool’s comparison rules. “Item” and “ item ” may remain separate if spaces or letter case differ.

Keep the original list until you verify the result. Do not use simple text cleanup as a substitute for validating unique identifiers in a database.
Two settings that decide what counts as a duplicate
The tool keeps the first time a line appears and removes later copies, and the lines that remain stay in their original order. Ignore surrounding spaces is switched on by default, so Item and Item with a space at the end count as the same line. Ignore letter case is off by default, so Ali and ali are different until you switch it on.
Worked example
Paste the lines Ali, Sara, ali, Sara and Omar. With only the default settings the result is Ali, Sara, ali and Omar. With Ignore letter case switched on the result is Ali, Sara and Omar. This is useful for lists of names, email addresses, product codes, keywords or URLs that were copied from several places.
Limits
Only lines that match under the chosen settings are removed. Lines that are similar but not the same, such as a different spelling, stay in the list. Keep the original list until you have checked the result, and do not use a text tool instead of a database rule when you must guarantee unique identifiers. Sorting the list first with Sort Lines makes near-duplicates easier to see.
