Weight Converter: Convert Kilograms, Grams, Pounds, and Ounces
A weight (mass) converter is useful when a recipe, parcel label, school assignment, or product specification uses a different unit. Enter a value, choose the source and target units, and calculate the equivalent.
How to use this tool
- Enter a numeric value.
- Choose the starting unit, such as pounds or kilograms.
- Choose the unit you need, such as grams or ounces.
- Select Convert to display the equivalent.
- Use Swap units to reverse the conversion direction.
Options explained
The converter has 16 weight units: kilograms, grams, milligrams, micrograms, metric tons, quintals, pounds, ounces, stones, US tons, UK tons, two kinds of mann (traditional and metric), seer, tola and carats. The result uses a standard conversion factor and is rounded for display.
Accuracy and limitations
For shipping, medical dosing, or regulated product labels, verify the required unit and precision with the applicable official instructions. Do not use rounded conversions for medication dosing.
Traditional units used in South Asia
Besides kilograms and pounds, the converter knows the units of the local markets. One tola is about 11.6638 grams and is mostly used for gold and silver. One seer is about 0.933 kilograms, and the traditional mann (maund) is about 37.3242 kilograms, which is 40 seer. In some markets a mann is counted as 40 kilograms, and the tool lists this metric mann separately, so choose the one your market uses.
Worked examples
One kilogram is about 2.2046 pounds, and one pound is about 453.59 grams. One ounce is about 28.35 grams. Ten tola are about 116.64 grams. A quintal is 100 kilograms and a metric tonne is 1,000 kilograms. Try a few of these in the tool and use Swap units to see the reverse.
Gold, shopping and shipping
When you buy gold by the tola, the weight is only one part of the price, because purity (the karat) and making charges matter as well, so ask the seller for all three. For parcels, check the carrier's own weight rules and round up as they do. For medicine or any dose, never use a rounded conversion; follow the label and a qualified person.
