Crop PDF Pages by Setting Page Margins

Cropping a PDF can remove scanner borders or excess white space around a page. This tool applies the same margin values to each page and saves a new file.

How to use this tool

  1. Select the PDF you want to crop and wait for the first page to appear.
  2. Draw a box on the page, or drag the box to move it and its corners and edges to resize it. Whole page selects the full page again.
  3. Choose Apply to: All pages (same area) or Only the pages I set (each page its own area), and move through the pages with the page controls.
  4. Look at the live result picture and the cropped page size. Open Enter exact values if you want precise margins in points.
  5. Crop and download the PDF, then open it and check every page.

Options explained

The box you draw is the area that stays. Apply to decides whether the same area is used for all pages or whether each page you set has its own area. The exact values are in points, where 72 points are one inch, and the numbers follow the box while the box follows the numbers. Every page gets a new page size so that every PDF viewer shows exactly the chosen area.

Privacy and file limits

The crop changes the visible page area and does not erase what lies outside it, so the hidden content may still be inside the file. Do not use cropping to remove confidential information. Check the export in a trusted PDF editor if data must be permanently redacted.

Drawing and adjusting the box

Drag inside the box to move it and use the corner or edge handles to resize it. You can also draw a new box anywhere on the page, and Whole page puts the box back around everything. A live picture beside the page is redrawn as you move the box, so you can see the result before you save. This is much faster on a phone or a computer than typing numbers.

One area for all pages or a different area for each page

Choose All pages when your scans have the same layout, for example a book scanned with the same margins on every page. Choose Only the pages I set when pages differ, for example a cover that needs a different crop from the text pages. Go to each page with the page controls and adjust the box for that page, and look at the cropped page size shown by the tool.

Cropping is not redaction

The crop hides the part outside the box in a viewer, but the content is not deleted from the file, so a person with the right tool could bring it back. Never rely on cropping to hide a name, a number or a picture that must stay private. To remove content for good, remove the page or replace it, and check the result in a PDF program that can inspect the content.
