Edit a PDF

  1. Choose a PDF from your device. Each page appears as a preview.
  2. Pick Text and click where the words should go, or pick Picture, Box, Highlight or White-out and drag on the page. To change words that are already in the PDF, click them with the Select tool and type the new words in the Replace existing text box under the preview.
  3. Click an item to move it, drag a corner to resize it, double-click text to change it, and use Undo if you make a mistake.
  4. Press Download edited PDF. Tick Flatten first if you used White-out to hide something that must not be recoverable.

What you can and cannot change

You can add text, pictures (PNG or JPG, such as a signature), boxes, highlights and white-out anywhere. Existing text can be replaced too: click a word with the Select tool, or choose a line, and type the new text. The tool matches the original font, size, bold, italic and colour as closely as it can. A scanned PDF has no selectable text: cover the old words with White-out and type over them.

White-out and Flatten

White-out only covers what is under it, and the covered text is still inside the file. If something must be removed for good, tick Flatten when you download. The pages then become pictures, so the covered content is gone but the text can no longer be selected.

Fonts and languages

Added text uses Arial (Helvetica), Times or Courier, which cover English and Western European letters. Letters such as Urdu or Arabic cannot be added as text, so add them as a picture instead.

Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The PDF is opened and edited in your browser and never leaves your device.

Can I change the existing text in a PDF?

Yes. With the Select tool click the word you want to change, or choose the line from the list under the preview, then type the new text in the small box that appears under the word. The preview changes as you type, and the font, size, bold, italic and colour are matched to the original as closely as possible. The original font file cannot be reused, so the nearest standard font (Arial, Times or Courier) is used. The old text is covered, not deleted, unless you tick Flatten.

What if the tool cannot match the style?

Every part of the style can be changed by hand in the same box: font, size, bold, italic, text colour and the colour behind the text. A scanned PDF has no selectable text, so use White-out and then Text.

Does White-out really remove the text under it?

Not by itself. It only covers it. Tick Flatten when you download to remove the covered content for good.

Can I add a signature?

Yes. Choose Picture and add a PNG or JPG of your signature, then move and resize it.

Is there a size or page limit?

You can edit PDFs up to 40 MB and 80 pages. Flatten works for up to 30 pages.
